With all the new government jobs opening as part of the new stimulus package , you might consider looking into getting employment with Uncle Sam. If you don’t know where to start here are a few tips.
First, Federal jobs are not concentrated in Washington – there are actually only 15% of government jobs located in the capital. Federal jobs being mostly located in big US cities, the best way to find if there are openings near you is to visit Uncle Sam’s official job site, USAJobs.com, and look for jobs by city and state.
The other important thing to know is which types of jobs are available. The Federal jobs created by the new administration will mostly be found in fields such as health care, energy, environment, education and infrastructures while specialties will vary from IT to engineering, finance, management, etc …
As for applying to the job, the competition being pretty fierce and the application process pretty complex, it is recommended to hire a professional Federal resume writer to prepare your Federal resume and accompanying documents such as KSA’s.

While we emphasize in this blog how good resume writing is important, finding jobs is obviously the other essential setp in the employment process. Since I got some e-mails asking about job search resources, I just wanted to let you know about resources you might have not heard of.
While you are probably familiar with all the main employment sites since you’re online, one thing you should also check, beside the – declining – newspaper classifieds, is your official state employment department. Each state indeed offers a database of jobs as well as resources that you can use online or in their office. For example the state of Oregon has http://www.employment.oregon.gov/, the state of Virginia has http://www.vec.virginia.gov/vecportal/index.cfm, etc …
So wherever you live, make sure to use these resources as well, especially as they’re free.
